Employment

We are always interested in hearing about qualified scientists and engineers to join our team. If you have seen something that matches your interests and qualifications, please send your complete resume and references.

Currently, Ad Astra Rocket Company is seeking mechanical engineers to join our team to develop, build, and test its steady-state 200 kW VASIMR prototype rocket at its facility in Webster, TX, near Johnson Space Center. Candidates with a strong interest in high temperature heat rejection systems and ceramic materials are desired. Additional work may involve cryogenic systems, vacuum systems, superconducting magnets, and spacecraft design.

The initial work will be designing test fixtures to obtain and analyze thermal data, and then design flight-relevant prototype systems for full power testing in a large high-vacuum facility. New team members must be willing to work closely with Ad Astra's manufacturing, design, and plasma physics experts. They must also be willing to become involved with, and responsible for, assembly, testing, and data collection when necessary. The work will require proficiency in structural, thermal, and fluid flow analysis.

Candidates with some or all of the following qualifications will be considered. Bachelor's or Master's degrees, or 5+ years of professional experience. Any job experience is highly desirable, including summer jobs or co-ops. Candidates must be adept with CAD modeling software and willing to adapt to Pro-Engineer if they do not already know Pro-E. (Ad Astra has an in-house expert who can train users of other CAD software, such as Solid Works, to use Pro-Engineer.)

Candidates for USA positions must be eligible under US laws to have access to any technology necessary to perform the job. References from previous work supervisors and/or classroom instructors are required. Minimum GPA: 3.0.
